Our first students arrive at new university centres

'I want to make sure I have the best degree and CEG can help me'

So states Ahmed Al Shehhi, one of many students who have arrived on the UCLan (Universty of Central Lancashire) campus this week ready for the first term of CEG's UCLan FoundationCampus programme (FoC).  He will spend a year studying with us and hopes, with the support of the tutors and staff at FoC, to go on to study a BSc (Hons) in Fire Safety and Engineering at UCLan.

Ahmed is sponsored by the Police service in Abu Dhabi and plans to return there when he graduates to begin his career. Giving his reasons for choosing this course Ahmed stated:

'My friends have studied at UCLan and they said the teachers were friendly and helpful.  My English is not very good so I want to make sure I have the best degree by doing FoundationCampus first.'

Term officially starts on Monday but some students have already arrived and been made welcome with a special mention in a speech to International Students by Angela Murphy, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, International, indicating the level of commitment from the University to the Partnership.  Students have full access to campus facilities and support for the duration of their course.

'It is always exciting to be part of a new venture and see it finally coming to life with the arrival of our students (and parents!).  I am delighted with the level of support and collaboration from the staff and different departments from UCLan and with the enthusiasm and extraordinary effort of our brand new team,' enthused Centre Head Luke Chow, previously Principal Lecturer / Acting Head of Wrexham Business School.

The partnership with UCLan, winner of an overseas student support award, is one of three ground-breaking FoundationCampus programmes beginning this year; the others being Coventry University and London South Bank University.

Our programmes offer guaranteed entry to a wide range of university degrees for successful students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
