Our Master's Foundation Programme is now titled 'Pre-Master's Programmes'. The programme has been revised to ensure students are best prepared for postgraduate study.

The Pre-Master’s Programme (PMP) is a two-semester programme, with guaranteed progression upon successful completion of the programme to a wide range of Master’s degrees at the University of Southampton.

Who is this programme designed for?

How long will I study for?

The duration of the programme is two semesters. Each semester consists of a minimum of 13 teaching weeks. Students will undertake 21 hours of classroom-based study per week. Students will be expected to timetable self-study hours in addition to the classroom-based hours.

Please note: Learning hours are estimated and may be adjusted throughout the course.

As part of these hours, all students will study Academic English Language Development up to 6 hours per week.

What will I study?

All students will study the following modules:

  • Undergraduate Research Dissertation

  • Academic English Language Development

  • Personal Development for Employability

  • Research and Digital Literacy Skills

  • Quantitative and Qualitative Research Methods

  • Working in Teams

How will I be assessed?

Each module will have an assessment schedule, which will be completed by the end of the appropriate semester.
