Thu 30 Sep 2010

Birkbeck, a constituent college of the University of London, has been shortlisted by the Times Higher Education Awards as University of the Year. The shortlists were drawn up by 26 independent Educational experts, including university Vice Chancellors, the Director General of the British Chambers of Commerce and the President of the National Union of Students.

The awards, now in their sixth year, received over 500 entries across 18 categories. The ceremony will take place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on 25th November.

This news came just a week after Birkbeck was recognised as a ‘global elite’ university by the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Ranked as number 152 in the world, this places Birkbeck as 23rd in the UK in terms of 13 wide-ranging performance indicators, including teaching, research and international mix.

Professor David Latchman CBE, Master of Birkbeck, stated on the College’s website that the rankings represent "a fantastic achievement that clearly demonstrates Birkbeck's excellence in world-class research and teaching. […] This global recognition is a testament to the performance and dedication of colleague’s right across the College."

Birkbeck is the location of London FoundationCampus – a brand new partnership that prepares international students for entry to prestigious University of London Colleges.
