Brian O'Malley, Centre Head ONCAMPUS Boston:

Today, we are highlighting the Florida Institute of Technology, or FIT for short. FIT is known as Florida's stem University. Among its most popular majors are its Aerospace Engineering major and its Aviation Management major. The university actually has its own fleet of planes. FIT is located in the city of Melbourne, in the heart of the beautiful state of Florida. Right in the center of the famous space coast, where you'll find the Kennedy Space Center. The weather in Melbourne is comfortable all year round and especially appealing to students who do not want to endure a long, cold Northeast winter. In addition, it's only about one hour's drive from Orlando and about two hours from Miami. FIT is ranked a top 50 Southern University by the Wall Street Journal and number 206 nationally by the US World News, making a tier one University. This is impressive considering there are over 5,000 colleges and universities in the United States. The University has over 6,000 students, of which a third are international students. There are a wide range of international food options, including halal options. There are also several designated prayer rooms throughout the campus. FIT also offers a wide range of clubs and extracurricular activities, for when it's time to have fun. There's something for everyone. As you can see FIT is a great place to earn your degree in the US. The National ranking, the location, the weather and student activities all add up to an amazing experience. So how do you make the transition from ONCAMPUS to FIT and what majors are available? For more information on this, I've asked our Transfer and Student Success Advisor, Mr Joe Lemme, to join the conversation.

Joe Lemme, Transfer and Student Success Advisor:

Hey, everybody, my name is Joe Lemme. FIT is a great transfer destination for our students interested in pursuing degrees in science, technology,= engineering, and mathematics. Florida Tech is divided into four smaller colleges: aeronautics, business, engineering and science, psychology and liberal arts. That last college is really symbolic of how a higher education operates in the US, in that even at a school dedicated to science, technology, engineering and mathematics, they still make room for the social sciences, the liberal arts. The great thing is that at the ONCAMPUS Boston program, our students are enrolled in general education classes. These are classes that will transfer to any University they go to after us, and those transfer credits will count toward their degree at this next university. The general education courses at Curry, when they transfer to FIT, students start FIT, they start all of our partner universities as second year students. Florida Tech is a STEM University. Those industries are always in high demand. The job outlook after graduation in science, technology, engineering or math always looks very positive and encouraging.

College of engineering at FIT basically covers almost every engineering field, you can possibly think of. Students can put their major within these fields and develop their skill set in a variety of engineering disciplines from aerospace engineering, all the way to ocean engineering. The engineering program is not just about studying in the classroom, they're also about job preparation. FIT has something called Protrack co-op. Students have the chance to work up to three paid work experiences while they are studying in the classroom and earning credits toward their degree. These paid work experiences will not delay their graduation. However, what they will do is allow the student to form connections at a company that might very well hire them after they complete their Florida Tech bachelor's degree. The College of Aeronautics at FIT is very, very special, kind of unique in the field of STEM education in the United States. That's because FIT has access to their own collection of planes. Students have the opportunity to work on them from an engineering standpoint but they also have the option to learn how to fly these planes as well. Students can work toward their pilot's license as part of the College of Aeronautics at FIT.

FIT also a business school. They do have business programs. Students can go to FIT to major in business, they can also just take business classes on the side, they also have students covered in helping them get their bachelor's and master's degree at the same time, in a fashion accelerated manner. In the stem industries, having a master's degree nowadays is very, very important, especially if students want to be competitive for some of the more high paying jobs in STEM fields. A stem bachelor's and master's combination could take a student anywhere from maybe six to nine years to complete. FIT has a way of letting them do that within five years. Students will be very busy, there will be a lot of work to do, but those graduate degree classes can start to show up during the last year of their bachelor's degree program. So when they leave FIT, they have both a bachelor's and the Masters after five years and they're ready to go. That five years would be more like four, for the students in our program because they'll already show up to FIT having completed one year of study. Please remember any student that comes to ONCAMPUS Boston as part of their welcome packet, they will get letters of conditional acceptance from FIT, as well as all of our other University partners. These are two snapshots from the letter these students will receive from FIT. If the student wanted to go to FIT to major in business, FIT wants a 2.5 GPA from our program. If they're going for a STEM degree, we're looking for more of a 3.0 GPA. ONCAMPUS Boston, we have had several students in our history go from our program to competitive STEM schools, and our team is filled with staff that have years of experience of helping students make that jump. STEM education in the United States can often be very expensive. FIT realizes that, and they offer a very generous $15,000 a year scholarship, for any student who finishes our program with a 3.0 or higher GPA. Very achievable due to the awesome, awesome staff that our students interact with every day, while they are part of ONCAMPUS Boston. Notice at FIT, the cost are different depending on which major you choose. Again, very common with STEM education in the United States. Notice that going to the College of Aeronautics, focusing on aviation, is more expensive if you enroll in that pilot program. Finally, I need to close with these gorgeous, absolutely stunning photos of the Florida Tech campus. Just an epic looking campus.

I hope this was helpful in encouraging students to choose ONCAMPUS Boston at Curry college, especially for the guaranteed progression partners, we can offer our students. Thank you for your time, and have a great day.
