My name is Saud. I'm Saudi Arabian and I'm studying the Medicine Undergraduate Foundation Programme at ONCAMPUS.

Why did you choose to study at ONCAMPUS UK North?

What was very important to me in the beginning was that ONCAMPUS UK North are very clear and very open about your options and where you can progress to and even in the in the first couple of weeks, we had presentations from all of the partner universities, telling you what they required from you. Everything was laid out. I think ONCAMPUS UK North understand that the most important thing for the student, is is that they end up where they want to end up.

Where do you hope to progress to next year?

I actually applied to RCSI and UCLan. In the beginning, I wanted to go to RCSI just because I knew about RCSI. I knew about its reputation. Spending time at ONCAMPUS, I realised how great of a university that UCLan is. The medicine course is very patient-centered and that aligns with what I want out of medicine. So I will continue with the plan, especially now that I've received my offer from them.

What are your tutors like at ONCAMPUS?

I've never in my life met tutors who are actually so invested in me actually learning the material instead of just passing. Of course, they care about us passing but what i'm used to in the past is that a tutor's job is that, you know, they teach you the material so you can get the grade. Here at ONCMAPUS UK North, the tutors are very invested into you actually understanding the material, developing as a person, so they're very much loving and caring and they're actually invested in you as a student.

What do you like about living in Preston?

Every time someone, like the staff members, would talk about Preston they would always go "It's beautiful but it's small and quiet", but I think that's what makes it what it is. I think that's why I find it so gorgeous, is how peaceful it is, how small it is. I think Preston is the perfect place to be for your first year. It heavily influenced me choosing UCLan over, you know, any other any of the other partnership universities.

Tell us about your UCLan medicine interview

What I found that the ideas were kind of bouncing off of me without me even trying because of all the preparation throughout the entire year. There were a lot of ethical questions. These are things that we we were taught to think about from the beginning of our journey at ONCAMPUS UK North. Even in the scientific lectures, when we learn about something like gene therapy, we have to think about you know the the ethical side of it. So I found that in the interview, even though I was nervous, I was answering the questions you know off of an instinct because I was just used to thinking ethically from the beginning of the year. I think ONCAMPUS prepares you well for it without you even realising.

Have you had any work experience?

Before I actually got my offer from ONCAMPUS UK North, I was suggested to do work experience. It was very beneficial to me because i realised that medicine is what I want to do. I was in the ER department and I was just following around all all the medics and learning from them, seeing how they deal with the patient. I even got to take a patient's history at the end and I think that was one of the most valuable experiences that I've ever had because I was just amazed at how the patient, in a moment of pain and vulnerability, gave me their trust and that's when i realised, yeah medicine is the right path for me.

What are you most proud of from your time at ONCAMPUS UK North?

In such a short amount of time, I've done so many things. ONCAMPUS UK North has provided so many opportunities for me but I'm actually most proud of the the friendships that I've created. You know, we started the year with all the students in so many different countries because of COVID and it was kind of a struggle to start our higher education journey, but the friendships are what truly made us get through it. So I'm most proud of the friends that I've made at ONCAMPUS.
