So, hi my name is Abubaker and I'm from Nigeria. I studied MSc Software Engineering at Aston University. Currently, I'm working at three different organisations. I'm juggling and I'm really trying to give back to the community and that was what I focussed on mainly during my time at Aston. At Aston, I had an amazing experience to be honest. From the first day I arrived at Aston, I felt welcomed. We always had guest speakers, different workshops and companies that come on campus that will assist you on that placement and career section that also gave multiple options and so they don't just wait for you to come, they come to you. You receive flyers all around careers. Those activities, those workshops really helped me a lot. They truly prepared me well and so it really helped me where I am right now.

I found Birmingham to be multicultural and captivating. It's a city you don't want to leave. After my course I got a contract job in London and then I went there and finished my contract. I had an option to go anywhere but I said no, I'm coming back to Birmingham. The diversity is amazing. The first time I ever went to the city centre, I was seeing people from different parts of the globe. There were people speaking different languages, so you feel welcome.

I would definitely recommend Aston to anyone who is looking for a university in the UK. There is a lot of opportunities, don't lock yourself to one specific thing. So just go there with an open mind. Welcome everything that comes to you. You will learn a lot. There are different societies, there are different activities. Get yourself involved. I would definitely recommend Aston and I would advise anyone going, go with an open mind to learn and to have experience and to network at the same time.
