Cyber Monday: How students can get the best bargain on Cyber Monday

Mon 27 Nov 2017

Mid-November, the time around the Thanksgiving holidays in the US, has traditionally been an important shopping week. Many people use this time to do Christmas shopping or look for great deals. This tradition has now expanded beyond the US and shoppers around the world can find great bargains during this time of year!

What is Cyber Monday?

Traditionally, it was Black Friday – the Friday during the Thanksgiving holidays – that was the biggest shopping day of the year for consumers in America. However, many retailers wanted people to shop online to avoid crowds and this shopping day has now become known as Cyber Monday – the Monday after Thanksgiving. However, this shopping bonanza is no longer limited to the US and many online retailers in the UK also offer Cyber Monday bargains. So, this is a great time to look for deals, buy Christmas presents or buy that one thing you have been saving up for!

What kind of deals can students expects to find?

This year, Cyber Monday falls on November 27, so get your fingers ready to surf and shop online! Retailers will begin posting bargains late Sunday, some earlier, so start checking your favourite online shops early. If you see a good offer, grab it quickly, because usually these deals are available only on a limited number of items.

Shopping during the Thanksgiving weekend has become so big that many save money or avoid buying big items before this weekend. For shoppers Cyber Monday is a great time to shop, because it is so much easier to compare prices online. However, because Cyber Monday has become so popular with shoppers, you may have to wait a few extra days to have your items delivered.

Of course there are great deals to be found across the board, but Cyber Monday is a great time to shop for new electronics. You should see deep discounts for game consoles, laptops, smart phones, tablets, TVs, and other electronic products during this time.

Making sure you get a genuine deal

Don’t get overwhelmed with the many bargains on offer. Of course there is nothing wrong with shopping spontaneously, but you will probably get a better deal, if you know what you are looking for. Do some research and check prices before Cyber Monday. Also, if you are using a credit card, it is worth checking if your credit card company is offering any Cyber Monday deals – extra points or extra money-back for shopping on Cyber Monday or at specific online shops. Some of these deals may require you to sign-up beforehand.

On the darker side, Cyber Monday is also a time for scammers and hackers. So, use your usual internet precautions: don’t click on links from emails, don’t respond to messages from unknown people and always check the URLs of any online shop to make sure you are on the real web site.

Happy online shopping!
