Obtaining a Swedish Residence Permit

Students who are not citizens of an EU or EEA country must have a residence permit for study before they travel to Sweden. The authority responsible for issuing residence permits is the Swedish Migration Agency, Migrationsverket.
Once you are officially enrolled to the ONCAMPUS Lund Sweden programme and if you are a student from outside the EU/EEA, you must apply online at www.migrationsverket.se (recommended), or through the Swedish Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence, for a residence permit for studies.

It is strongly recommended that you make your residence permit application online (if possible) and make sure that you include the correct documentation. Applications for residence permits may under no circumstances be submitted after entering Sweden. If you are to support yourself with your own funds, you must submit your application no earlier than three months before the date you are applying for a residence permit from. This is because you will be able to show that you can support yourself close to the beginning of the study time.

Residence Permit Application Process

Fill out an application for a residence permit here uploading the following required documentation:

• Passport pages that contain personal details (passport valid for at least three months)
• Admission decision or letter of acceptance
• Proof of ICS Complete (AON Student Insurance) health insurance
• Proof of ability to finance your study = 8,568 SEK x 10 months = 85,680 SEK
• Payment of 1,500 SEK (cost of residence permit)

The Swedish Migration Agency will process the application

Whilst waiting for a decision on the residence permit, visit the Swedish embassy or consulate-general in your home country to be photographed and fingerprinted. This is so that you can be given a residence permit card. You will use this alongside proof of your residence permit to travel to Sweden.

You will receive an email stating that a decision has been made on the residence permit.

Ensure you collect/have received your residence permit card as you will need this alongside proof of your residence permit to enter Sweden.

Citizens of Japan, South Korea, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and Monaco can arrange to collect their residence permit card on arrival in Sweden but must travel with proof they have been granted a residence permit.

What to bring with you

You will need to show your ONCAMPUS enrolment documents to the Immigration Officer on arrival so please make sure they are placed safely in your carry-on hand luggage. 

Money 

Swedish currency is the Krona (SEK), sometimes referred to as the Swedish crown. It is not possible to open a bank account in a Swedish bank without a Swedish personal number (which is only available to you once you progress to university) so we strongly advise you to bring your own credit card. Most credit cards are accepted in hotels, most restaurants, large department stores and tourist attractions. You can also use cards for small transactions and cash is being used less frequently in Swedish cities. Please note that personal, traveler’s or international cheques are not accepted by Swedish banks.

Clothing 

You should have enough warm clothing for your flight and subsequent journey. Several layers of lightweight clothes are better than a single shirt or dress. It is probably cheaper and easier to buy warm winter clothing in Sweden rather than in your home country. It is worth bringing items of your national dress to wear at social events, and photographs of family and home may be of interest to new friends who would like to learn about other cultures. It is useful to bring some passport-sized photographs of yourself.

Climate

It is winter in Sweden from mid-November to the end of February. Snow is expected in most parts of the country, but in the southern parts there will probably be rain mixed with snow. The temperature varies between -10 to +5 degrees Celsius. Spring arrives at the end of March and lasts throughout April and May. The temperature will rise to approx. 20 degrees Celsius. The wonderful summer comes to Lund in June and stays until mid September. Summer temperature lies approx. between +17 - 30 degrees Celsius. In the autumn, September - November, rain starts to fall and the temperature decreases to app. + 5 degrees but can go below 0 degree Celsius.

Luggage

You will usually have a free baggage allowance, which will be shown on your air ticket; this is usually from 20kg with a restricted weight of 32kg per single item of luggage. Only essential personal possessions may be brought in addition to research materials. You may be charged for excess baggage if you exceed the baggage allowance, so check with the airline before you leave if you are not sure of your allowance. You should make a list of everything you bring.

Important: A payment reference must be provided so that the college can identify funds on safe arrival into our account. This must be the student reference number as stated on your offer document. This reference means that we can then allocate the funds against your invoice accordingly. Failure to include a reference may mean we have to contact you again to establish your proof of payment.

What to expect on arrival in the EU

When you arrive at Copenhagen airport you will need to pass through immigration so follow the signs to Passport Control. If the Immigration Officer asks you about the purpose of your visit to Sweden then please explain that you will be studying in Sweden and make sure you are able to show the required documents. It is important that you answer these questions in detail, politely and keep calm. Make sure you have all the following supporting documents in your carry-on luggage:

• Original documents
• Proof of accommodation
• Proof of health insurance
• Certificate of enrolment
• Residence Permit and residence permit card (if applicable)

Arriving in Copenhagen if you need to present a negative COVID test

• If you've taken a PCR test, it's valid for 72 hours
• If you've taken an antigen test, it's valid for 48 hours

Different rules apply to pre-boarding tests and on-arrival tests, depending on the country you're travelling from. Please see the different country categories for entering Denmark before you travel.

Arriving from a green country?

• You don't need to be tested or self-isolate when you return to Denmark

Arriving from a yellow country?

• You must be tested when you return to Denmark
• Follow the signs to the test centre in parking lot P5 after the baggage claim, here you can get a free PCR test
• You don't need to self-isolate when you get home

Free COVID-19 test

There will be an opportunity to take a free COVID-19 test at Copenhagen Airport. We strongly recommend you to do the test, even if you don't have symptoms, in order to prevent the virus spreading. After picking up your luggage, follow the signs for “COVID-19 test”. It is a station right outside the airport on a parking lot about 300m away. Once you are there, just follow the instructions given to you by the medical staff. If you test positive, they will call you within 72 hours. If you don’t hear from them, it means that you are negative and don’t have to worry. 

Once you are done with the testing, you can just walk back to the airport building and from there, take the train to Lund. 

Test taking is optional, but we strongly recommend you to take this opportunity and make sure that you are not carrying the virus which could spread to your teachers and peers.

How to get to ONCAMPUS Lund Sweden

ONCAMPUS Lund Sweden, The Yellow House Botanical Garden, Ostra Vallgatan 14, 223 61 Lund.

Train

The journey time by train from the airport to Lund is about 35 minutes. The journey takes you over the Oresund Bridge connecting Denmark to Sweden and via Malmö central station where you may need to change trains. Train tickets cost approximately SEK 135 from the Skånetrafiken ticket machines in the arrivals hall at Copenhagen Airport, near the escalators going down to the train platform. You can pay using a debit/credit card, and if you buy a ticket all the way to Lund, the ticket will be valid even if you need to change trains at Malmö central station. You can also use the Danish DSB ticket machines when travelling with Skånetrafiken, or buy the ticket at the DSB ticket office; however, a DSB ticket will be slightly more expensive. Please note that there is a passport control at the first stop on the Swedish side. Make sure to always carry a valid passport or ID-card when travelling between Denmark and Sweden.

Taxi

Alternatively, fully regulated taxis are available 24/7 and cost about €95 to journey from Copenhagen to Lund (approx 50km). Taxis in Sweden can be ordered in advance or found at taxi stops usually just outside stations.

Enrolment and induction

It is important that you attend Induction Week (whether online or face-to-face). Once you have registered at the ONCAMPUS office you will receive information about your induction. The Induction sessions will give you the opportunity to meet key ONCAMPUS staff and other students on your course. You will learn about the university, the centre and your programme of study, and join ONCAMPUS formally. Enrolment is the administrative process whereby you are admitted to ONCAMPUS as a student. It is part of your induction. On the first day of induction, we will tell you when and where your enrolment will take place. When you attend enrolment, remember to bring along all the essential original documents mentioned under Enrolment documents. Enrolment is an essential part of your induction. After you enrol, you are officially a student of ONCAMPUS Lund Sweden.

Important: ONCAMPUS will only accept original documents. We cannot accept photocopies.
