Living in Monterey Bay
With more than 1,380 acres (5.2 km2), the campus has everything you’d expect from a great university: state-of-the-art library, new dorms and academic buildings, dining halls to accommodate all lifestyles, comprehensive athletic facilities and a buzzing student center.
CSUMB students enjoy small classes, enthusiastic professors, and a diverse student body from all over the world. And as one of the 23 campuses in the California State University, the largest 4-year public system in the U.S., CSUMB has access to comprehensive academic resources while maintaining a flexible, intimate, small school feel.
What do you like to do?
We’ve got athletics, clubs, concerts, karaoke, camping trips, speakers and plays. Or maybe you just want to relax with some friends in their apartment. Or ride your bike to the beach. It’s up to you and there’s no shortage of options.
The university has more than 80 student clubs and organizations representing a wide range of interests from anime to men’s volleyball. Some are cultural, some are athletic, some political, some academic and some purely social. Plus, new clubs form every year, so if you don’t see a group you want to join, you can always start your own!
Cal State Monterey Bay fields 13 NCAA Division II athletics teams including:
- Cross Country
- Water Polo
Outdoor Recreation is another very popular program that helps students explore all the adventures the Monterey area has to offer, like stand-up paddling, camping, kayaking, and rock-climbing, to name a few.
At the Otter Cycle Center, you can rent, store or repair your bike. Biking is a great way to get around campus, and makes trips to the beach a breeze — it can even serve as your main mode of transportation around town.
