Undergraduate:

International Foundation Programme (IFP)

This one-year (3 term) programme offers successful students guaranteed progression* to Coventry University. You will study your Foundation programme at our state-of-the-art Centre located at the heart of the Coventry University campus.



This programme gives guaranteed progression* to Year 1 of a wide range of undergraduate degrees or the International Year One in Business & Management.

Who is this programme designed for?

This programme is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to undergraduate studies at Coventry University. If you successfully complete the IFP you are guaranteed placement on a suitable programme of undergraduate study at Coventry University. The IFP is set at level 3, which is equivalent to A-level standard in the UK.

How long will I study for?

This programme lasts one academic year (nine months). The year is divided into three terms of seven to eight teaching weeks and one reading week. You will undertake up to 25 hours of classroom-based study per week.

What will I study?

This programme includes English and three academic subject modules. English will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects, as well as being taught separately if you need additional support to develop your English language.

There are five academic pathways to choose from and you will study the pathway most suited to your chosen progression degree. Academic skills relevant to the specific subject area will be taught to fully prepare you for university study. The pathways are: Business, Economics, Finance and Management, Engineering and Sciences, Humanities, Law and Social Sciences, Life Sciences and Art and Design.

How will I be assessed?

You will be assessed at regular intervals throughout the programme to ensure you are making the progress required to successfully complete the programme. Full assessment of the programme will take place in the final term. Assessment methodologies are aligned to those that will be experienced in the University environment, and include project work, essays, presentations and unseen examination.

Intensive International Foundation Programme (IIFP)

This intensive two term programme offers successful students guaranteed progression* to Coventry University. You will study your Intensive Foundation programme at our state-of-the-art Centre located at the heart of the Coventry University campus.


This programme gives guaranteed progression* to Year 1 of a wide range of undergraduate degrees or the International Year One in Business & Management.

Who is this programme designed for?

The Intensive IFP is designed to prepare international students, who have completed senior secondary education, for entry to undergraduate studies at Coventry university.  All students who successfully complete the Intensive IFP are guaranteed placement on a suitable programme of undergraduate study at the host partner university. The duration of the Intensive IFP is six months. 

How long will I study for?

The Intensive IFP is divided into two terms (14 and 10 weeks respectively).  Students undertake between 3 and 10 hours per module of contact time per week.  English language delivery will necessarily vary according to the ability and needs of the student, and will be investigated on entry testing. The total contact hours may be up to 30 hours.

What will I study?

This programme includes English and three academic subject modules. English will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects, as well as being taught separately. If you need additional English support to develop your English language, further support classes are available.

There are two academic pathways to choose from and you will study the pathway most suited to your chosen progression degree. Academic skills relevant to the specific subject area will be taught to help you prepare for university study.

International Year One (IY1)

This one-year (3 term) programme offers successful students guaranteed progression* to Year 2 of a number of Business-related degrees at Coventry University. You study your Foundation programme at our state-of-the-art Centre located at the heart of the Coventry University campus.


The International Year One Programme offers guaranteed progression* to Year 2 of the following BA (Hons) degrees;

Who is this programme designed for?

This programme is designed for international students who do not quite have the academic grades and/or English level to start the first year of an undergraduate degree at Coventry University, but have a stronger profile than an IFP student. If you successfully complete the IY1 you are guaranteed progression* to Year 2 of a business-related undergraduate degree at Coventry
University. This programme is set at level 4, and is equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate business degree in the UK.

How long will I study for?

Your application will be assessed and you may be offered a 3 or 4 term programme depending on your English level and academic background. The duration of the programme is one academic year (nine or twelve months). The year is divided into three or four terms of seven to eight teaching weeks, one reading week, and an examination week. You will undertake up to 28 hours of classroom-based study per week.

What will I study?

This programme includes ten modules, nine of which students will take depending on their intended progression degree. These modules are: English, and eight academic modules relating to business and management.The academic modules are:

The Master’s Qualifying Programme is available as a one, two or three-term programme, with guaranteed progression* to a wide range of Master’s degrees at Coventry University. The Master’s Foundation Programme is available as a one, two or three-term programme. It offers you guaranteed progression* to a wide range of Master’s degrees.

Who is this programme designed for?
This programme is designed to prepare international students for postgraduate study in the UK. The MQP will allow you to improve your English while learning the study skills and research methods that you will need during your Master’s degree studies. Depending on the length of the programme you study, you may also study academic modules relating to your chosen progression route.

How long will I study for?
Each term is divided into seven to eight teaching weeks, one reading week and an assessment week. You will undertake up to 25 hours of classroom-based study per week.

If you study this programme, you will study two compulsory units of research study skills, including a major project, plus English language.

2 terms
If you study this programme, you will study two compulsory units of research project, personal and professional development, plus English language. You will also choose an additional academic subject unit, depending on your intended progression degree.
