ONCAMPUS Rhode Island to offer international students guaranteed progression to URI majors

Tue 31 May 2016

ONCAMPUS Rhode Island will offer successful international students guaranteed progression to a wide range of URI majors. ONCAMPUS students will receive high-quality, credit-bearing instruction, tailored to international students’ needs, to ensure they are prepared to succeed in their chosen URI program.

URI is the largest university in the U.S.’s geographically smallest state; but, with more than 14,000 undergraduates and 2,000 graduate students, URI is small enough to be friendly, safe and student-centered. Internationally renowned for its coastal and ocean science, health science, engineering and textiles programs, the University offers more than 80 undergraduate majors, plus more than 140 student clubs and activities to spark and inspire students' pioneering spirit. Perfectly located six short miles from Rhode Island's Atlantic Coast beaches and within easy driving distance from Providence, Boston, and New York, URI’s picturesque New England campus is close enough to big-city culture and activities to make any student feel at home.

Donald DeHayes, URI’s provost and vice president for Academic Affairs, said, "To succeed, our students must prepare to live and work in an increasingly globalized economy and society. While we already host students from more than 65 different nations, we need to cultivate an increasingly diverse student body to further enrich the University’s overall learning experience. Partnering with Cambridge Education Group enables us to attract a wider range of international students to our campus who can make meaningful contributions to URI’s vibrancy and vitality."

Fergus Brownlee, president of Cambridge Education Group, said, “ONCAMPUS Rhode Island is a great new partnership that builds on our reputation for delivering quality pathway programs in the U.S. Our partnership with URI is exciting and will offer academically qualified international students the opportunity to access the quality education programs that URI delivers.”

ONCAMPUS, part of Cambridge Education Group, has four established partnerships in the U.S., located in Boston with Wheelock College, in the State of New York with Morrisville State College (part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system), with California State University Monterey Bay and with the University of North Texas. In the United Kingdom and Europe, it operates nine ONCAMPUS centers including a highly successful partnership with the world ranked University of Amsterdam and its latest partnership with Lund University, Sweden, ranked 60th in the world.

ONCAMPUS Rhode Island will offer a University Pathway Program to international students who might benefit from supplemental instructional support prior to progressing to the second year of their bachelor's degree at URI.  The center will enroll its first students in January 2017.
