Students vote FoundationCampus partner Coventry University into UK's top ten

Wed 13 Aug 2014

The independent survey, published this week, gives final year students across the country the opportunity to rate how satisfied they are with their university experience, including the quality of teaching and how well they've been supported throughout their studies.

Coventry University ranks seventh overall in the UK amongst non-specialist institutions in the survey – with 91% of students satisfied with their course (up from 90% in 2013) – and it is once again the highest-placed modern university in the country.

The University excels in several of the survey's categories, being voted to joint top-spot in the UK for teaching – alongside Oxford and Cambridge – and coming first for academic support, with 89% of students saying they're happy with the advice, support and availability of tutors.

Coventry has also been voted top in the UK for personal development, which measures how students feel their skills and confidence have improved while studying. 92% agreed that their communication skills had improved throughout their course.

Another area in which the University scores strongly is for the quality of assessment and feedback which it gives to students, with students voting it to joint second spot in the UK.

A further 81% of students said they were satisfied with the University's students' union, making Coventry's union the joint 12th most popular in the UK and second in the Midlands.

Coventry's performance in the survey – which this year was completed by over 320,000 students around the UK – marks the fifth consecutive year that student satisfaction levels have risen at the institution.

Vice-chancellor John Latham said:

“Looking after our students and ensuring their overall experience at Coventry is second to none is a priority for us, so we're delighted that they are continuing to express their satisfaction in this way.

There is no better testament than that of our students, so it's particularly pleasing to see aspects of our courses such as teaching quality and tutors' support and advice receiving such a ringing endorsement.

These results, as well as our other recent improvements in the national rankings, are very much down to the ongoing hard work of our staff, whose commitment to providing a first-rate learning environment for our students is key to the University's continued success.”

In June Coventry rose six places to 27th in the Guardian University Guide 2015 – its highest ever position – and it won the 'Modern University of the Year' award in the 2014 Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.
